The Argenteuil MRC presents a diversified economic potential.

There are close to 1000 employers in Argenteuil. They belong mainly to the third sector (5680 jobs, for 43%), followed by the primary (4595 jobs, for 35%) and secondary (2915 jobs, for 22%) sectors.

More than half of the active population held positions within the MRC territory in 2001. The downtown area, Lachute, is the most important source of employment, with 70 per cent of existing positions. With more that 45 per cent of residents working outside Argenteuil, the region enjoys significant economic links with surrounding municipalities such as Hawkesbury in Ontario, and Laval, Saint-Jérôme and Mirabel in Quebec.
